Do you also experience sweaty nights during the cool months?

Many Danes wake up with sweaty nightwear and bedding when the cool autumn and winter nights give way to the warm summer nights. It is not surprising that the body may have difficulty regulating heat in a climate where temperatures fluctuate greatly in summer and winter. But for many people, body temperature is not much better regulated during the cool winter months, and some Danes suffer from night sweats all year round.

Here are five tips on how to get rid of night sweats and enjoy a good night’s sleep:

  1. Adjust the temperature in your room. The bedroom should be a little cooler than the rest of the house – preferably around 18-19º.
  2. Choose a duvet and top mattress that can absorb sweat, and avoid synthetic bedding and nightwear. This way, the heat can escape from the body during the night. In addition, two people rarely have the same temperature needs and preferences, so you may not need the same duvet and mattress as your partner.
  3. Avoid caffeine and alcohol 2-3 hours before bedtime. These drinks, like spicy foods, can increase sweat production. Read more about which foods you should avoid in order to get rid of sweat in this blog post.
  4. Relax. It is easier said than done, but stress is another reason why many Danes occasionally wake up bathed in sweat. 10 minutes of mindfulness before bedtime, or after waking up from a night sweat, can reduce sweat production. Our Facebook page also features a number of videos by Kristina Trolle, a physical and mental health consultant, where she gives good advice on how to ‘park’ your thoughts before going to bed.
  5. Apply an effective antiperspirant. Perspirex antiperspirants have helped many return to dry nights and can also help you sleep undisturbed, well rested the next day. Because we all sweat differently, Perspirex has developed various effective antiperspirants to meet your personal needs and give you safe protection against sweat and the smell of sweat in any situation – even at night. Available in both roll-on and lotion form, Perspirex provides effective sweat reduction. You can take a test and find out which antiperspirant is best for you.
